Rapid advancements in Industry 4.0, characterized by automation, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, have exposed a significant skills mismatch between traditional academic curricula and evolving industry demands. This study adopts a qualitative, literature-based approach combined with comparative analysis of contemporary higher education frameworks, institutional practices, and industry competency requirements to identify critical gaps in workforce readiness. The findings indicate that conventional academic programs tend to emphasize theoretical knowledge while providing limited opportunities for practical technical skills, project-based learning, and cross-disciplinary competencies. The analysis further indicates that strategic partnerships, including industry-academia co-designed curricula, micro-credentialing, and upskilling bootcamps, can help strengthen graduate employability and reduce the competency gap. To prepare the future workforce for Industry 4.0, higher education institutions should develop dynamic learning ecosystems that integrate agile learning methodologies, continuous professional upskilling, and active collaboration with industry.
